Got a waterproof Traxxas Rustler (without a body) the other day. Charging it up right now and hoping the battery isn’t *dead* dead. If not, I’ll be ordering a new body and bashing the hell out of this, using my non-waterproof Rustler with a fried ESC as a parts car. I have enough stuff to break every non-electric part and still be good, so I’m not gonna be that nice to it.
But anyway, what’s a good pre-painted body I should use? I want a minivan or a Prius, but I don’t think anyone makes those.
Update: everything works, but the gears aren’t catching. The motor just spins. Gonna open it up and fix that with my other one.

If it was a Slash, you’d have body options out your ears.
Realistically, you can easily mount bodies of roughly the right scale on most R/C cars provided you’re willing to do some minor mods to the mount points. I’d just slap some longer body mounting posts on there, bore the right holes, and call it a day.
Painting isn’t that hard, either. Just a rattle can and some masking tape if you want more than one color. Bodies come with window masks and stickers.

I have a non-waterproof R ustler and a Stampede. They are the same chassis with different suspension bits. I dropped a performance motor into the Stampede and it’s impossible to steer under throttle. The front end just gets too light.
Both are a lot lighter than my RC-10, but the suspension on the RC-10 is much better than on the traxxas cars.

That’s a cool find! You could check e-bay for the bodies. I did a search and found prius bodies for rc cars but I don’t know if it would fit yours or not.

I’m gonna need a new motor for this guy, honestly. I took it to the park after fixing the gears and it is sloooow. Couldn’t even kick up dirt on the baseball field.

My cousin had a Grasshopper, so I bought my RC-10 so we could have some fun. The RC-10 was so much better both in motor and in suspension. My cousin thought he could keep up with me if he bought a new motor. He didn’t consider the friction shocks or the open diff. He still couldn’t keep up, but it was hilarious fun because the Grasshopper had become a monster donut machine. If he ever got it in a straight line on a smooth surface, it was loads faster than my RC-10. Trying to race our cars taught us that without control, power is useless.
I’m sure your new Rustler will do great with a bit more power. Just don’t go overboard like I did with my Stampede and my cousin did with his Grasshopper.
